Over the last three years we have completed 3 major refurbishments of grade two listed dwellings. Both in the village of Harwaden, North Wales.

Hawarden Castle’s historic, Grade 11 listed red gates which overlook the centre of the village.

William Hall & Co. are pleased to report that Flintshire Council has approved plans to repair and preserve both the gates and the adjoining Village Lodge. The carefully planned conservation work is intended to protect and restore the original structures and safeguard the future of these important historic buildings in the heart of the village.

The sandstone gates, commissioned by Sir Stephen Richard Glynne 11 in the early 19th Century,  are built in the gothic style and are attributed to the famous artist and architect John Buckler. They are one of a pair of gates, the second being situated to the East of the Castle itself.  The stonework will be repointed and the contemporary studded and panelled gates will be treated and repainted.

Works to the adjoining single storey castellated Village Lodge, one of 6 of the currently standing gate houses to Hawarden Castle Park, will involve improving standards for habitation along with conservation repairs. This will include internal lime plastering and careful restoration of leaded glazing.
